Diwali and rangoli go hand in hand. In your mind you have thought of the fact that there will in fact be a rangoli at the entrance of your house; but have you thought about details like the design of the rangoli, and if you have then is it an easy one or something pretty you saw on the internet, more importantly will you have the time to execute such a rangoli in a short amount of time. Another thing you’ll have to keep in mind are the kind of rangoli you will be making and the materials required for it; their availability and ease of working with them also matters.

For the food you have a few dishes in mind that you really want to serve, but before setting your menu in concrete you have to keep a few things in mind; are the dishes you will be serving easy to make and will the ingredients for these dishes easily available, if you run out of one of the dishes do you have enough stock to replenish and if it is one that has to be made fresh do you have the ingredients in stock. Most importantly you will have to keep in mind the kind of food your guests will like (veg or non-veg) and of course their food allergies, because you don’t want your party to be a bad Grey’s Anatomy episode!

Getting all done up for Diwali is just one of its perks (besides the permission to gorge on sweets without guilt…). As the date for the party gets closer and closer you will have almost no time to think about your outfit or accessories; it is essential that you prep for your final look in advance to save time stressing about clothes. If you prefer having something stitched instead buying a readymade outfit then you should start planning months before, because there will most probably be revisions to your outfit. Also your accessory game has to be on point too.

Décor whether it is your furniture and other home décor or just the Diwali decorations you want to put up is a probably the most important item on your Diwali party checklist. Buying décor items like cushion covers, centre pieces, curtains take a lot of time and should not be put off till the last minute. For the decorations, you should start your prep early; purchasing the diyas and candles, the string lights, torans, items for your pooja area and anything else to your liking should be purchased before hand to avoid last minute trips to the market which will inevitably be unnecessarily expensive.
