Soundarya Jayachandran; professionally known as SOUNDARYA, is an English singer-songwriter, performer and voice artist of Indian origin. Her music can be associated with pop, alternative and soul. With an 8 year training in Indian Classical music, 6 grades in Guitar from Trinity College London and a professional Certificate in vocal performance from A. R. Rahman’s school of music, she had music running in her blood from a very young age. Having been writing and composing her own music from the age of 15, she decided to grow as an independent artist and record a 5 song EP called “Shades Of Revival” that came out May 2013 and was distributed on iTunes and other online stores worldwide.
She was also runner-up on the first season of India’s first English singing reality show on primetime television called “The Stage” that airs on VH1 and Colors Infinity judged by the biggest names in the Indian entertainment industry like Vishal Dadlani, Ehsaan Noorani, Monica Dogra, Shibani Dandekar and Universal Music South-East Asia’s CEO-Devraj Sanyal. She was handpicked and nominated to be one of the 8 Youth ambassadors of the country for Audi India in 2015. She also recorded a single called “I don’t need nobody” in collaboration with Qyuki; an initiative by Shekar Kapoor and A. R. Rahman that which was acclaimed and promoted by A. R. Rahman himself.
Her single “Unapologetic” released in 2016, premiered on Vh1’s Hit factory for several weeks and she was also featured as their Artist of the month. In 2017, she decided to create, co-produce and host her very own web series called “BSIDES”, a series dedicated exclusively to musicians and getting to know them beyond their professional stand points as the people that they truly were. Having been performing across the country since the age of 17 with the likes of musicians including Ehsaan Noraani and Loy Mendonsa, she believes in the rawness of her sound and the simple arrangements that her music exudes.
