Depot48 Presents Celebrating Dylan's 77th

Turning 77 on May 24, 2018, Bob Dylan - singer-songwriter, author and painter - is arguably the most influential songwriter ever with many of his songs becoming part of the Civil Right's Movement in the 1960s in the US and the protests against the Vietnam war. Songs like Blowin' In The Wind and The Times They Are A-changin' became anthems of their time, remaining relevant even today. The Rolling Stones magazine declared the mid-60s track Like A Rolling Stone as the single greatest song of all time. With close to 40 studio albums and over a couple of dozen live and bootleg records, Dylan continues to have a fan-following that is incredibly glued to what he does, say and performs.
Critics say that he changed how songs were written be it structure or length. Till Desolation Row in 1965, one had never heard of an 11-minute long song. This opened the doors for several artists to explore be it The Beatles, Joan Baez, Bruce Springsteen, The Who or even Leonard Cohen. Dylan has also been covered by many contemporary to past singers lending them big hits that led to their recognition. Adele, for example, made millions from Make You Feel My Love. Knockin' on Heaven's Door became big hits for Eric Clapton and Guns N Roses.
All Along the Watchtower was covered by Jimi Hendrix to Taj Mahal to U2 - all being well received if not iconic to their repertoire. Even pop artists such as Maroon5 and Miley Cyrus have a Dylan song amongst their own. On May 24, it will be probably be one of the first few times that Delhi will celebrate his birthday through a tribute by multiple artists. It will be an evening of songs interpreted by acoustic acts to a full-band show and conversations. If you are a Dylan=head then this is the place to be, singing along, engaging with other followers, pretty much worshipping a man who is a reluctant hero, Lifetime Grammy Award Winner and Nobel Laurette who has cared little for such recognition.
As Dylan said: "A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and gets to bed at night, and in between he does what he wants to do" and "All I can be is me, whoever that is"!
